Nagano City
Nagano City is a temple town surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and with the stunning and admired Zenkoji Temple at its heart.
It is a city where Japanese traditions and culture endure, and the noble samurai culture that once thrived here is revered. Nagano City offers travellers the chance to immerse themselves in longstanding Japanese traditions, savour tantalizing cuisine, and explore breathtaking natural wonders – all just a short train ride from Tokyo or the many ski resorts nearby.
In addition to Nagano City’s breathtaking Zenkoji Temple, which remains one of the most significant places of worship across all of Japan, a visit to Nagano wouldn’t be complete without exploring some of the city’s other highlights including Togakushi Shrine and the stunning, highly photogenic, Avenue of Cedar Trees which links the Okusha Shrine to the Zuishin-mon gate. The Togakushi region is just a short bus ride from central Nagano and is home to some of the best soba noodles in all of Japan, along with it’s very own ski resort.
The city is also very proud of its Olympic history as the host city of the 1998 Winter Olympics, and visitors can explore many of the Olympic venues built for the Games, along with the free to access Nagano Olympic Museum during a visit.

Kanazawa City
Often described as one of Japan's most breathtaking cities, Kanazawa continues to be one of the most vibrant, historically significant cities in Japan.
Its treasure trove of attractions and must-see experiences include atmospheric samurai quarters and Geisha districts, rich craft traditions, and distinctive local cuisine. And with easy access from Hakuba, Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, there’s no wonder that Kanazawa is quickly becoming one of Japan’s must visit destinations.
Kanazawa’s most famous attraction is Kenrokuen garden, one of Japan’s three most beautiful gardens, and visitors from all over Japan and the world come to explore the stunning gardens year-round. In Winter, the gardens are particularly famous for the unique yukizuri (snow hanging) technique employed to protect the gardens delicate Karasaki pine tree from snow. But Kenrokuen is only the start of what this thriving city has to offer. Other must sees include the traditional Nagamachi district where some of Japan’s elite samurai warriors called home during the Edo period, the quaint teahouse lined alleyways of the Higashi Chaya district, and the delicious flavours that abound at Omicho Market. Don’t forget to try some of Kanazawa’s famous Gold-leaf ice cream during your visit. It is both opulent and delicious!
